HISTORIC NORTH END

As Boston’s oldest neighborhood, the North End retains much of the old-world allure that shaped it over the centuries. The winding, narrow streets and alleyways from Boston’s colonial days create cozy corners for condos. The abbondanza of Italian restaurants, cafés and bakeries established by generations of Old World emigrants offer succulent selections of pizza, pasta, Panini, Tortellini, lasagna, parmigiana, Stromboli, cannoli and more. Along the Freedom Trail are those historic landmarks that helped shape the nation: the Paul Revere House, the residence of the valorous silversmith who took his famous Midnight Ride to warn the populace of approaching British troops; Old North Church, where Revere had lanterns hung in the belfry to alert the citizens which way the troops were approaching; and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground, one of Boston’s oldest collection of gravestones and the resting place of such notables as Edmund Hartt, builder of the U.S.S. Constitution (“Old Ironsides”), and Prince Hall, an early abolitionist. Summer festivals honoring the patron saints of diverse regions of Italy fill the neighborhood with jubilant parades of statues of the saints sporting dollar bills attached by supporters. And the North End isn’t too far north to be far away, having easy access to the Waterfront, Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the Rose Kennedy Greenway, Downtown, sports at TD Garden, major highways, and transit lines at North Station from the Green and Orange Lines to the Commuter Rail to Amtrak.
